Floyd Mayweather Jr. is in the sаles business and his product is himself, аnd frankly, no one sells it better. He’s made a cаreer of promoting overhyped mismatches of himself agаinst limited opponents touted to be the next best thing in Boxing.
In 2005, Mayweather sold the аngle that Arturo Gatti, who hаd аbsolutely no Boxing skills whatsoever, would be аble to use his rough housing style to beаt up аnd bully Mayweather into submission. We аll know full well that Gatti’s style played perfectly into Mayweather’s fаvor but some of us still chose to believe otherwise.
Fast forward to 2 yeаrs later, in 2007 he sold us the same exact thing against Ricky Hatton, but this time he mаde the smaller Hatton jump up one weight class where he wasn’t nearly аs effective. Well we all know what hаppened there.
Mayweather exposed Hatton to be the club fighter that he is and picked him apаrt en route to a knockout in the later rounds.
In 2006, Mayweather’s first foray agаinst a legitimate Welterweight in Carlos Baldomir was being showcased as the best available opponent for Mayweather at the time. Yes, aheаd of both Miguel Cotto who was then just moving up to Welterweight as well аnd Antonio Margarito, pre-disgrace.
Baldomir was a large Welterweight with limited abilites and Mayweather made eаsy work of him.
Right after that, Mayweather was scheduled to fight the very errаtic Zab Judah. Judah had always been highly regarded as a very crafty southpaw with great solid skills, enough to actually be а threаt to Mayweather. However, it was аlso known to be that Judah was highly unpredictable in аnd out of the ring – distractions that often get the better of him and affect his performances. Nevertheless,
Mayweather sold to the general public a personal grudge he hаd with Judah, which resulted in a very heated rivalry and in turn translated into one of the craziest in ring scuffles between boxers and trainers in the history of the sport (Judah even took a swing at Floyd’s uncle аnd trainer Roger Mayweather). After the brief incident, the fight continued and Mayweather seized control of the bout to cruise to a Unanimous Decision over 12 rounds.
In his recent fights agаinst Mexicans, Mayweather took an overweight and bloаted Oscar Dela Hoya into the Super Welterweight division where he had an obvious speed advantage. He took Dela Hoya apart with pinpoint accurаcy. Much to the surprise of many, Dela Hoya still had much left in the tank and his constant аggression offset much of his speed disadvantage. Mayweather escаped with а split decision win.
The other was the Juan Manuel Marquez fight and to this dаte, is the biggest sham in my opinion. Mayweather who is technically much better than Marquez took the Mexican 2 weight divisions higher out of his comfort zone аnd аbsurdly disregarded the catchweight of 144 lbs. The end result was Mayweather entering the bout with аn undisclosed weight advantage over the smaller and slower Marquez – a weight disparity that he refused to reveаl. Some believe the difference was around 20 lbs.
Mayweather completely dominated Marquez.
This fall, September 17th, Mayweather is scheduled to fаce rising star Victor Ortiz from Oxnard, California. While there аre still some out there who believe this will be a competitive matchup, most boxing anаlysts and casual observers are already wary of Mayweather’s previous history of “cherry-picking” his opponents. Not mаny outside of a few Ortiz hopefuls think Mayweather is in for a tough one.
Now Victor Ortiz isn’t a bad fighter by any meаns, the fact is that he’s too young аnd raw for a fighter such as Mayweather’s caliber at this stage in his career. He’s simply not ready for a fight of this mаgnitude. Au contrare, Ortiz actually has the type of style to beat Mayweather, he’s got a good combination of speed and power and plus he’s a lefty (Mayweather has historically had difficulties with southpаws, also confirmed by Roger Mayweather himself). But it’s far too early for Ortiz to be stepping in the ring with “Money May”.
Nonetheless, this fight will hаppen whether we like it or not. The only consolation we can take away from this is the fact that Mayweather is indeed fighting again, whether to prep for an eventual Pacquiao showdown or to pаy the bills. It doesn’t matter. Mayweather fighting again means more drama, more business and more fаns watching Boxing.
Never mind that it’s a complete and utter mismаtch. Victor Ortiz will provide a couple of scares for Mayweather anyways, which is always great to watch. Expect to see however Mayweather’s awesome defensive prowess on full display – a technicаl showcase of masterful boxing.
Also expect for Mayweather to win this one by Unanimous Decision as he hаs done so for his past few fights despite facing overmatched opposition. Unless of course, the “upset” hаppens which hаs been a theme for the earlier part of this year.

lotd Mayweather Jr. hopes for Pacquiao but set for Victor Ortiz
The unbeaten U.S. boxer Floyd Mayweather will end his 16-month lay-off against the lefty Victor Ortiz this September, but still hopes to give fans a long time looking for showdown with the Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao.
Mayweather, 41-0 with 25 knockouts, will face World Boxing Council welterweight Victor Ortiz, 29-2-2 with 22 knockouts, September 17 in Las Vegas with an eye on another southpaw Pacquiao after that.
"After this fight, if I'm able to negotiate a Pacquiao fight, it could happen," Mayweather said. "(Ortiz) is a southpaw. That could lead to the Pacquiao fight. If it does or it doesn't, I'm not going to stop fighting."
Most of the fighting on the agenda for Mayweather is legal. He faces three court cases, including the cost of an incident with a former girlfriend who could make up to 34 years in prison and a defamation of Pacquiao.
Asked how the federal lawsuit could affect negotiations for a Pacquiao, Mayweather said: "I'm not sure at all."
"You go through ups and downs in life. If that's how he feels, things happen. If he wants to go to court for defamation of character, that's up to him."
Pacquiao claims his reputation was damaged when Mayweather was accused of being a drug cheat in their search for "Pac-Man" blood around the time of a fight, some of the Philippine Star has always denied, but rather that is not required by an American surveillance boxing.
"Hopefully Manny Pacquiao steps up to the plate and takes the test so we can fight," Mayweather said. "I'm waiting for the fight to happen. I'm taking one step at a time."
Ortiz and Mayweather will undergo additional blood and urine samples without the usual level before combat. Mayweather had similar rules in place before his last fight, a victory over Shane Mosley in May.
"I've been missing the sport," Mayweather said. "I'm happy to be back performing for the fans."
Mayweather said he tries to ignore legal procedures to focus on the fight against Ortiz, and that because he is a fighter that could be found guilty of incidents involving physical contact before all the facts given a jury.
"They are already saying I'm guilty with no photos or pictures of anything," Mayweather said. "I need to see some pictures and see some proof of what I have done. All of this is just hearsay.
"All I need to do is go out there and stay focused and focus on what is in that squared circle."
Mayweather, who said he played basketball, but does not work in the ring recently sitting in the shoes of champions with his invincibility, although it will be Ortiz, who holds a title when they climb into the ring .
"He's trying to dethrone me," Mayweather said. "My job is to go out there and fight like I always do."

Mayweather - Ortiz, Face Off
HBO Face Off with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Victor Ortiz, has revealed little of what we already knew. Ortiz talked about how he was going to beat Mayweather, and that he did not intend to allow Floyd to take his belt. Repeal Mayweather, saying: "They put in front of 41, 41 came up short." It 'the same dialogue Trash Talk Mayweather, and his opponent.
Through face-off, Ortiz was confident and showed a very specific behavior. It would not allow Mayweather to enter his head. Can you love from the heart of the child. Ortiz opened as an outsider of 7 to 1, and it obviously did not care. Ortiz has struggled since he was young. He and his siblings were abandoned by their mothers at a very early age, so why should we be afraid of Mayweather? Beware Maidana fight, Ortiz is a tough hombre.
Mayweather is a point when he says he beat Shane Mosley after Mosley had a hell of a performance against Antonio Margarito. He came back and beat Juan Manuel Marquez, Mark was clearly the smaller man, after an absence of two years. Marcos was (and is) an elite fighter and Mayweather deserves credit for his win against him. To add to the discussion of Mayweather, who also beat an undefeated Ricky Hatton. While most fans love to hate the Floyd, he fought fighters who were in their early victories and was huge.
Not a slight against Manny Pacquiao, but he fought Hatton and Mosley after both fighters were clearly not at his best. Hatton was about to be torn down and Mosley was just old. I have nothing against Pacquiao, because he remains the best fighter today, but for argument's sake, Mayweather does not make sense.
Come September 17, Ortiz is up everyone is talking about. He has everything to gain and nothing to lose. With Mayweather is different. Must hit Ortiz and the set-up a monumental showdown with Manny Pacquiao next year.

Is Victor Ortiz underestimating and too confident against his opponent Floyd Mayweather?
Is Victor Ortiz underestimating and too confident against his opponent Floyd Mayweather? What can you say?
Last week Victor Ortiz made a statement that he is unimpressed with Mayweather’s accomplishment in boxing and expressed himself on being the first fighter to defeat and cut the winning streak of the undefeated Floyd Mayweather. Ortiz is too confident he can win his upcoming fight against Floyd.
The undefeated pound-for-pound champion Floyd Mayweather is rarely shares some comments against his opponent during the build-up for his showdown with WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz. Other than the typical boasting and bragging from Mayweather’s character we’ve always seen on 24/7, Floyd Mayweather hasn’t had much to say about his opponent (Ortiz).Victor Ortiz, however, has been doing his best to promote the event by letting everyone know that he will not be the number 42 on Mayweather’s perfect record. He is extremely confident; some of his comments make you wonder if he could be underestimating the challenge that lies before him.
Earlier this week during their conference call, Ortiz makes some comments about Floyd Mayweather:
"Here’s the thing. Forty-one of those fighters that he’s fought, none of them were me. So, somebody’s in trouble."
"Floyd’s overdue. He’s way overdue. He’s not supposed to be here. He’s definitely not supposed to be a 147 pounder and I’m going to see to it that he knows that."
"You know what, Floyd is a good fighter. But, I’ve never thought he was great; ever since I was a kid. You know when you’re a little boy, you sit back and you say, ‘Wow. That guy’s good. That guy’s great! Oscar was one of those for me. Mosley was definitely one of those for me. Bernard Hopkins was one of those for me. In his prime, Zab Judah was one of those for me. And Floyd, not in his prime, not in his come up, not in his anything, he’s ever been that to me. So, I’m definitely not impressed for one, and I’m not a person who’s going to hold any kind of respect like those 41 other victims."
"But, as far as I’m concerned, there are no concerns on my end about Floyd, period. Don’t care how good he thinks he is or you guys think he is, I’m set in stone and I’m ready to go."
"He’s just a careful fighter. He’s a global boxer."
"Forty-one of his fighters, he fought the same way every fight. Every single fight except the analysts are too blind to see that he actually fights the same way every fight. Now, I don’t really care what he’s got to bring, you know, he’s done. The moment they mentioned Victor Ortiz versus Mayweather, he was done. Period"
Based on those comments, Is Ortiz really underestimating and too confident to win in his biggest challenge of his career? You be the judge.

Fans Agree with Mayweather: Victor Ortiz Story is Boring
In his official Twitter page update, Mayweather shared his opinion on the Episode 2 of Mayweather-Ortiz 24/7, revealing that he’s not happy about the direction that HBO has taken with the latest Episode.
“I was very unhappy with the second episode of 24/7. HBO needs a new editor. The network does not show the real entertainment.” Mayweather said. ”We are tired of Victor Ortiz story about his struggles. It’s Boring now. Blacks go through life struggles all the time and always RISE” he added.

Floyd Mayweather wants to bet $2.5 Million each on De La Hoya and Ortiz
During his break from working the heavy bag – Floyd Mayweather Jr. informs everyone in attendance that he’s more than willing to test just how sure his opponent, as well as his promoter about their claim to be the first to defeat him.
Mayweather challenged Victor Ortiz and promoter Oscar De La Hoya, to take up a $2.5m bet on the outcome of the fight. If Victor Ortiz believes in himself and Oscar De La Hoya believe in Victor Ortiz, I bet ‘em both $2.5m a piece,” said Mayweather as he took a break from the heavy bag. “I got $2.5m to Oscar; then he can buy more products because he got vices.” Mayweather continued, taking an obvious shot at De La Hoya’s recent admission to alcohol and cocaine abuse.
“Then we got Victor Ortiz, I seen him in Victoria Secrets outfits, so how we can handle this is this; you know your payday is $2.5m Victor, so you go and bet your $2.5m and Oscar is going to put $2.5m on it. So I got a $5m bet right now,” he added.
It is doubtful if Victor Ortiz will take a risk on betting $2.5M to Mayweather for their fight since this is his biggest payday ever in his career.

Mayweather vs Ortiz HBO 24/7 Episode 3
HBO’s ’24/7′ returned with episode 3 of ’24/7 Mayweather-Ortiz’, the all-access reality movie series following the undefeated pound-for-pound champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. and WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz as they prepare for their September 17 bout at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ortiz Trainer Says Floyd is a Dirty Fighter
If you watched Episode 3 of "24/7 Mayweather/Ortiz", Victor Ortiz’s trainer Danny Garcia said that Floyd Mayweather is a dirty fighter, pointing out that the undefeated Floyd Mayweather intentionally uses his elbows to cause damage on his opponents.
"He’s dirty...they never take a point off of him," Garcia commented while watching Mayweather’s victory over Ricky Hatton. "What is the most dangerous thing about Mayweather?” his elbow, - "What is the most dangerous thing about Ortiz?” everything, he added. After that fight (Mayweather vs Hatton), numerous fans of Ricky Hatton accused the same as what Garcia commented about Mayweather’s dirty tactics. Of course, what some call dirty, others call "veteran tactics", as Hatton himself gave Mayweather credit for the techniques he used while fighting on the inside. "He’s better inside than I thought, with all the elbows and shoulders and forearms he used," Hatton remarked after suffering his first career loss.
Victor’s brother, who was also watching together with Garcia, expressed that Mayweather constantly to use his elbows right in front of the referee (Joe Cortez), although he was being warned several times of his tactics. Considering that the Joe Cortez has been tapped to work on Saturday’s bout between Mayweather and Ortiz.
However, Victor Ortiz’s trainer Danny Garcia remains positive and confident that Mayweather is no bout for Ortiz. "I know that Victor’s going to beat him. Victor’s going to give him his first loss." Garcia said.

Mayweather to Ortiz: "I'm going to finish you off"
LAS VEGAS - His family disputes make interesting reality television. His legal issues could land him in jail. Worse yet for Floyd Mayweather Jr. is that he's getting older by the fight and Manny Pacquiao keeps stealing his spotlight.
One place he doesn't expect to have any problems, however, is in the ring Saturday night against Victor Ortiz.
"I believe in my skills. I believe in my talent," Mayweather said. "This fight will not go the distance."
Mayweather returns to the ring for the first time in 16 months in an intriguing matchup against a young slugger who vows to give him his first loss. He'll make millions to fight Ortiz on pay-per-view television, largely because he's found a way to sell himself as must-see TV on the HBO channel.
Oddsmakers don't figure he'll have trouble against Ortiz, and neither do most boxing observers. But Mayweather is 34 now and he hasn't fought in such a long time that the predictions may be little more than guesses.
Ortiz says he has nothing to lose and nothing to fear in the biggest fight of his life. But other fighters have said that, and Mayweather remains 41-0, a fighter who may not be great but has a record that makes him look close to it.
"I'm going to finish you off," Mayweather told Ortiz at Wednesday's final prefight news conference at the MGM Grand hotel.
Mayweather said he was already at the 147-pound weight limit for the welterweight title that Ortiz won by upsetting Andre Berto in his last fight, which is not surprising since Mayweather is never out of shape. But there are questions even inside his own camp about the length of his layoff and the advance of age that eventually claims every fighter.
The last time out Mayweather had a soft touch against an aging Shane Mosley, who stung him in the second round only to fight to survive the rest of the way. This time he has a 24-year-old in front of him full of confidence after a fight he desperately needed to right his career.
"America wants to see change, and change is coming soon," Ortiz said.
Ortiz overcame the odds of being abandoned by his parents to become a boxer who fights with the same intensity with which he lives.
Given up by many boxing fans for giving up in his fight two years ago against Marcos Maidana, Ortiz righted his career by coming back from two knockdowns in a gutsy fight to beat Berto and win the welterweight title in April.
"He has a real heart," promoter Oscar De La Hoya said. "He's a fighter who has been down and always gets back up. Every opponent he's faced has touched the canvas."
Indeed, the best thing about Ortiz in the ring — at least for fans watching from home — is that he always seems one punch from a knockout and one more punch from being knocked out himself. He's 29-2-1, but he's fighting for only the second time as a true welterweight and he'll be going up against a fighter who is very comfortable at that weight.
But it may be the experience factor which will be the real difference. Mayweather is a veteran of big fights — the bouts he's been in have sold a total of nearly 7 million pay-per-views — while this is the first time on center stage for Ortiz.
"It's a completely different stage," said De La Hoya, who was on that stage for most of his career. "Either you crumble under the lights or you shine like there is no tomorrow. Victor's as cool as a cucumber, he doesn't let anything affect him."
Ortiz said that's because he always had to overcome the odds from the time he was born in Garden City, Kan., to his life as a boxer today in Southern California.
"It's always been me against everyone," Ortiz said. "I welcome the challenge and will rise to it, just as I have every time."
The fight figures to be another huge payday for Mayweather, one of only two boxers — Pacquiao is the other — who can consistently sell his fights to America's living rooms. And it could lead to something much bigger, assuming Mayweather wins and Pacquiao dispatches Juan Manuel Marquez in their Nov. 12 fight.
Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, said recently that he thinks the impasse over drug testing that has blocked the fight can be resolved and that the two could finally meet in perhaps boxing's richest fight ever next May.

Keys to victory for Floyd Mayweather Jr.
1. Defense: It all starts with defense for Mayweather. The moniker "Pretty" wasn’t pulled out of a dog’s ass and was just given to Floyd. Rarely is he hit in the face and when he does, we're shocked by it. It’s like watching Charlie Sheen act normal. It almost never happens. In his recent fights, Floyd has chosen to stand right in front of his opponents and Jedi-mind trick them into thinking they can hit him. Once they miss with their punches, Floyd delivers sharp, stinging counters.
2. Accuracy: Most of the punches thrown by Floyd land on target. He wastes no energy and makes sure that when he throws, he lands. Not only is his jab precise, but also his counterpunches. His straight right hand down the middle is a damaging blow thrown after an opponent's attempted punch rolls off his left shoulder. Given Ortiz's reckless fighting style, expect Floyd's straight right to find its target often.
3. Body work: A part of Floyd's game that is underrated is his body punching. We're all in awe of his defense, we forget Floyd has a dangerous offensive arsenal. His work on the body goes unnoticed and with Ortiz's high-handed defense, Floyd will go to the body more than he has in the past.
4. Keeping the 0: Nothing motivates Floyd more than keeping his record unblemished (OK, maybe money). The two-time fighter of the year is obsessed with retiring with no losses. His undefeated record also brings in the Pay-Per-View numbers and additional revenue because half of the fans who pay $54.99 to watch Floyd want to see him lose. Floyd has benefitted financially from all the haters.
5. Manny Pacquiao: It's no coincidence Floyd has chosen Ortiz as an opponent. Ortiz is a powerful southpaw with a versatile offensive game. Floyd selected him as an opponent because he knows he can beat him. From the moment Ortiz’s hand was lifted at the end Andre Berto fight, Floyd already had a strategy in mind to beat him.
Ortiz provides Floyd a template on how to fight against an aggressive southpaw. He needs this fight against Ortiz to prepare for his fight with Pacquiao early next year. (Hope I didn’t jinx it)

Inside Floyd Mayweather's Mind
FLOYD MAYWEATHER has psychological flaws, said Rolando Arellano, the manager of Victor Ortiz, in the build up to the September 17 fight between the two for the latter’s WBC welterweight title.
“You don’t have to be a psychologist. Anyone that needs a house that big, 16 cars, a million dollars’ worth of jewellery, there is an underlying issue there of inadequacy and insecurity, if you need that to feel good,” insisted Arellano. “Anyone that needs to tell you that ‘I’m “Money” Mayweather’ is because without those assets he might be a scared little boy down deep inside. We pick that up.
“He has everything to lose, all the prestige and that record which he protects so much. You can see he’s insecure.”
Mental frailty is of course a charge that has been levelled against Ortiz, once he crumbled against Marcos Maidana and appeared to let Lamont Peterson off the hook in their draw. For Arellano, Victor’s thrilling, see-saw war with Andre Berto, to win his belt, answered all those questions and more.
“This is a man who broke through the threshold of doubt when he became champion with the Berto fight. I think as a result of that, he gained the confidence,” said Arellano. “Now in his mind he’s a world champion.”
But whatever may in fact fuel Mayweather’s fires, Floyd has every reason to trust in his boxing abilities. Victorious in his 41 contests, he’s widely considered one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world, with only Manny Pacquiao there to challenge his supremacy. He must also be used to events of this magnitude, while Ortiz has only now propelled himself to this exalted level.
But Arellano is adamant his man will cope with the occasion, saying, “How is Victor going to handle all this stuff? He’s not, let Floyd handle it. ‘I’m just here to fight.’ It’s just another man in the ring. Human beings make mistakes and he better not make that mistake on September 17.”
Danny Garcia, Ortiz’s trainer, declared there were no chinks in his charge’s psychological armour, saying, “Victor’s confident, Victor’s calm, Victor’s ready for anything. He’s a man, he’s not a kid. He’s ready for everything.”
As their fight draws closer Mayweather has flung some verbal jabs Ortiz’s way. It remains to be seen if they rattled the younger man. Floyd has supposedly invited Danny Garcia’s brother Robert to the fight, to annoy the Ortiz corner seeing as the two brothers fell out after Victor switched from one trainer to the other.
“I heard one rumour he’s bringing in my brother and Brandon Rios. What does that have to do with the fight?” Danny Garcia commented. “They’re not going to help him. He can bring the president if it wants. He can bring the whole army if he wants. The only guys that are going to be inside the ring are him and my champion, Victor Ortiz. And my champion is better than him.”

Mayweather Promise Ortiz Won't Last the Distance
The undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. promise that Victor “Vicious” Ortiz won’t last the distance when they clash at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on September 17, 2011.
In a final pre-fight press conference a supremely confident Mayweather who has an unblemished record of 41-0 said “I believe in my skills. I believe in my talent, this fight will not go the distance."
Mayweather made the claim despite a long 16 month layoff in what some boxing writers believe is an intriguing matchup against a young slugger who can punch and is ten years ago who has himself vowed to give Mayweather his first loss.
In a face-off with Ortiz-Mayweather shouted “I'm going to finish you off."
Mayweather claimed he hasn’t any problems with his weight and is already tipping the scales at the 147 pound welterweight limit for his title showdown “Star Power” with Ortiz.
Ortiz won the title with an upset win over Andre Berto in his last fight in April, coming back from two knockdowns to win a twelve round decision. Now Ortiz says "America wants to see change, and change is coming soon," referring to his fight versus Mayweather.
Golden Boy Promotions Oscar De La Hoya who handles Ortiz said the 24 year old "has a real heart. He's a fighter who has been down and always gets back up. Every opponent he's faced has touched the canvas."
However, De La Hoya concedes that "It's a completely different stage" adding that " You either crumble under the lights or you shine like there is no tomorrow.”
Mayweather’s uncle and trainer Roger Mayweather says he’s seen enough of Ortiz on tape to be able to formulate a solid game plan for the fight.
Roger Mayweather told boxing writer Steve Carp of the Las Vegas Review Journal that Ortiz “is a good fighter. But good is one thing. The best is another. And Ortiz is fighting the best in my nephew.”
Images From Las Vegas: Mayweather Ortiz Weigh-In

It was a wild scene today inside of the MGM Grand Garden Arena as WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz and former champion Floyd Mayweather both made weight ahead of their clash tomorrow night. The undefeated Ortiz is a heavy underdog heading into the fight but has exuded confidence throughout the buildup to the fight and his demeanor didn’t change with Mayweather in his face.

After both men weighed in, each appearing to be in tremendous shape, Mayweather chided Ortiz on and even grabbed him around the throat with his right hand. While it didn’t appear that Floyd was being 100% forceful with his actions, it was a striking move by the 34-year old.
But Ortiz simply grinned and took everything in stride, enjoying the moment for what it was worth. The bottom line is that both men are ready heading into tomorrow night.
